Why this exists

Large language models are becoming commodities. We should treat them as such: choosing a model provider should feel like choosing a phone company or an electricity supplier — pick one that works for you, switch when you want, take your data wherever.

Eigin is a declaration of independence from the current arrangement. You bring the model; Eigin does the rest, on your device, under your control.

It's free and open source. The mission is funded by providing sovereign AI to institutions that need the same guarantees you do.

Principles

Ownership by design. Eigin is local-first. Your keys, your data, your device. Your chats, knowledge, and settings live on the device. The only outgoing requests are the ones you allow: inference calls to the providers you chose, and optional requests for connectivity features like web search.

The blank slate. Eigin has no corporate agenda or innate personality. It's a tabula rasa that configures itself through conversation. The agent gets to know you, learns your needs, and becomes the tool you require. The result is yours to keep, read, change, or delete.

Individual utility. Built to serve the individual using it, not a platform. No tracking, no hidden incentives. Get the job done and get out of the way.

Beautifully simple. Convenient, focused, minimal. Each interaction has a clear purpose, with no noise. The app is free for individuals, and it looks free — unburdened.

Model-agnostic. Bring your own key. Use any provider that speaks an OpenAI-compatible API, or run a local model with no network at all. Models are utilities. You plug them in and go.

Built for daily use. Native apps that integrate with the OS, built to the standard of the platform they run on. Something you want to reach for.

What Eigin is not

Not a marketplace. Eigin is private, personal AI, there to serve the individual.

Not a model zoo. Not for benchmarking models or comparing outputs. For getting stuff done.

Not everything. Image generation, code execution, and the like can happen through external tools if you want them. Eigin's core is conversation, with voice as a first-class input.

The long view

The future we're building toward is one where personal AI is private, secure, and truly yours. That is our compass.
